LO4 Evidence of editing (DPS Pull quote and making the blue graphic the main Image.)

I have deleted my other image, enlarged the blue graphic and put a path around the left side of it so that my text can be wrapped around it [note: i also have added a boarder to my whole page] 

I have added more pull quotes to fill out the empty space. I feel that by using the same style as for my first pull quote i have created equity between them and also my front cover which has this same type of theme . As well as this the way the pull quotes are messy and difficult to process could relate to the model feeling stressed out which is referenced in my interview.  

LO4: evidence of editing (Front cover image)

The first thing i did towards editing the initial raw image I took on the DSLR was make initial changes on adobe Photoshop. These changes included decreasing the temperature, highlights and blacks while increasing the contrast, whites, clarity and saturation.

following this i used the spot healing tool in order to make the model look more of a ideal self archetype. 

Following this I have used the polygonal lasso tool to separate the model from the rest of the image changing the background into black and white by using the following Image > Adjustments > Black + White.

This screenshot hows me using the following tool Image > adjustments > Curves (I however do not use this tool 

The last thing i did to the image before putting it onto the page was using the crop tool so that my model would be larger. 

Here i have shown the tool I used to make the image blue (that being Image > adjustments>  Hue and Saturation > Colurize) [Note I took this screenshot after making the change so the image is not sowing any change to the levels] 

Finally i used Image > Adjustments > Curves to adjust the contrast of the image. 

LO4: Evidence of editing (Blue Banner for DPS)

The first step of creating this graphic was to edit the initial RAW pictures by changing the contrast, temperature, tint and clarity. 

after making this change i used the polygonal lasso tool in order to Cut Abbie out of the image. This meant that i would be able to line the three images up without having white gaps between them.  

After removing the background i again edited the brightness and contrast again in order to make sure that the image would be clear when i changed the colour.

Here i have used the hue and saturation image adjustment tools (as well as the colourise option) to make the image into the shade of blue I wanted to. I wanted all of the three images i was going to use a different shade of blue, this one being the lightest. This meant another use of the brightness and contrast tools.

After applying these changes to all three of the images i wanted to use i applied some final changes. These included again changing the brightness again as well as the exposure both to make it more clear. I have also lined up all of the images in thew way i want them to appear in the magazine. 

With the editing of the images complete i saved them together as a Portable network graphic (PNG) file so that it could support the transparency of the graphic itself. (as that i have edited out the background.)

This is the final graphic made for the magazine. 

LO4 version controls (Front page)

 Version controls (Front page).

While creating the front page of my magazine I took many screenshots and saved many (gradually more advanced) versions. Below I have noted, step by step how I created this page.

In this first version of the front cover of my magazine I have added the initial assets that I will require to create the top section of the page (that including a masthead, date and the word "Free" in large text so that people walking past the magazine after it has been published will know that they don't have to pay for it.

After Placing my initial assets I have moved/ manipulated them in order to better mirror the look of a real magazine. I have added red as a house style colour for the pager as well here.

Here I have added a cover line and main cover line as well as changing the fonts for the word "Free" and "Sheffields best indie rock mag!" to impact as that I feel that it better connotes the rebellious nature of rock music.

In this version of my work I have changed the cover line which I had created to make it part of my main cover line as well as changing the reds to blues to create consistency in house style colour for my whole magazine.

After this I added a cover line about the upcoming "Tramlines festival" as well as a manipulated version of their logo which will make it fit in with the house style of the page

Here I have added the rest of my cover lines as well as an edited image of the model whom the main cover line refers to. I also changed the colour of the Masthead in order to make it more clear against the dark image. 

After this I have edited my cover lines to make them brighter

Following this I have compared my magazine against others in the same genre and seen that there is not usually so much constancy in the cover line colour as mine has therefore I have changed the colour of my middle one.  

Here I have edited the page so that the model appears in front of the masthead . This Is commonplace in real magazines and connotes that the mode is the most important page of the feature.

After this I edited the caption that reads "Sheffield's best indie rock mag!" in order to make it the brightest thing on the cover, making it stand out to a reader.

LO4: Evidence of editing (removing model from background, Wrapping text around blue graphic, changing pull quote design)

After creating my blue graphic there were only a few changes that needed to be made to my double page spread in order to complete it . My making of these changes is shown below.

1. removing the different shade of white background from the photo of my model.

As can be seen in this image the background that the model is sitting in front of is not perfectly white (instead being more gray). I therefore decide that i needed to edit the model out of the picture and insert them onto the In design pager with a completely white background.
I did this by opening the photo in photoshop and using the quick selection tool in order to designate the sections i wanted to keep and those i wanted to dispose off. The result of this can be seen below.

Here it can be seen that i have used the quick selection too and then the layer via cut tool to place my model on a perfectly white background.

Here I have inserted the image with the clear background and enlarged it in order to make the subject of the article more established.



2.  Making text wrap around blue graphic and 3. changing the pull quote design.

Here I have edited the size of the image to better establish the model the subject of the article. This gave me an idea for where i wanted to put my new edited pull quote. As well as this I have inserted my blue graphic and made it the size iI want it to be however i still need to position I correctly. 

As can be seen here I have completed the new version of my pull quote. I created this by stretching the text box so that it filled the area i wanted e quote to occupy and then changing the sizes of each individual letter in order to to make the quote look unconventional and rebellious which connotes the nature of the models music.  I have also adjusted the order of the layers on the page so that he quote would go behind the model.
I have also changed the position of the graphic so that it will fit at the very bottom of the page where I want it.
