Mastheads
Mastheads that are similar to the one I am planning to
create contain many features that I should take into account if I want it to
fit in amongst the competition. Firstly the fonts used in them are all very
bond. This connotes several things about the text itself. Firstly the bold font
makes the name of the magazine very clear against the cover lines of the front
page. This means that the first thing someone glancing in the direction of the
page will be the mast head. This leads to people seeing it regularly, building
up a trust of the brand and legitimising it in their mind. Secondly the use of a bold font could be seen
to connote the content of the magazine itself being out of the ordinary and
bold in it.
As well as this the Mastheads always use all capital letters.
It is therefore of upmost importance that I do the same so that my front page
does not appear to be incompetently put together.
Magazine masthead ideas:
Below I have inserted three different ideas for my magazine masthead. I have decided to use the one which I have captioned "Idea 2" as that I feel that the bold font connotes the nature of indie rock music better than idea 1. After creating the masthead that I have labelled "Idea 3" I decided to merge the O and R together as that I felt this would better suit the focus of indie music which is that of community and people coming together and creating new and unique music. Judging the advancement of my ideas I eventually decide on using design 3 as that I felt it was the most unique and therefore the best at connoting the individualistic nature of indie rock music. Therefore idea three is the masthead that will appear on Forge magazine.
